Choice and Control with the NDIS

Choice and Control is a new way of thinking about how you arrange your care and support. It is designed to help you to receive services in a way that suits you and your family, and offers you more control over the way your services are delivered. This is also known as self-directed support.

If you’re not happy with any part of your NDIS experience, there’s a good chance you are able to change it. From changing service providers or plan managers through to requesting a review of your plan, there are lots of ways you can have choice and control over the supports you receive.

There are many places you can turn for advice including someone you know who has an NDIS plan, Support Coordinators, NDIS groups on social media.

The funding in your NDIS plan is there to support you in your daily life and to achieve your goals. It’s important to keep an eye on your budgets to avoid underspending, to ensure you’re getting the support you’re entitled to – a big part of choice and control.

Understanding the funding you have in your plan and what it can be used for can greatly improve your level of choice and control. Collective Coordination can help you analyse, brain storm and implement your NDIS funding.

There are many new NDIS measures being introduced regularly. Keeping up to date with these allows you to take advantage of each opportunity as they come. Collective Coordination keeps up to date with all NDIS changes, send us a message or give us a call if you would like to discuss anything or remain updated.

Plan Management is a great way to maximise your choice and control when it comes to your NDIS plan. Plan Management allows you to be flexible in the services that you choose. You can request plan management with your Local Area Coordinator when you discuss your plan.

The most basic definition of plan management calls it a ‘financial intermediary’ support. This means that all plan managers are a connection between an NDIS participant, providers and the NDIA. Plan management is about having a third party to communicate with service providers and pay invoices on your behalf.
